Ten eerste, ik had 't nooit verwacht, maar het woord 'sorry' heeft de mond van Bush verlaten, maar wat voor een halfbakken excuses is dit?

WaPo:

"'I told him I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by the Iraqi prisoners, and the humiliation suffered by their families,' Bush said. 'I told him I was equally sorry that people who have been seeing those pictures didn't understand the true nature and heart of America.' "

'him' in deze tekst is koning Abdullah van Jordanië. Stel je voor dat je land wordt binnengevallen, grote groepen mensen worden in de gevangenis gemieterd (onschuldigen en schuldigen gelijk) en vernederd door lachende soldaten en de leider zegt dat hij heeft gezegd tegen de leider van een ander land dat het hem spijt. (UPDATE: of lees deze reactie van een Iraakse blogger)

Ik zeg: niet genoeg. Ga met je kop op TV en betuig spijt voor het Iraakse volk en gooi de daders voor de militaire rechtbank en de verantwoordelijke minister op straat.

Maar goed: alles is politiek, zo blijkt:
